Monday is the official back-to-school preparation.
What to expect from Mrs. Field's class on Monday: We will spend our class period quickly highlighting some classroom behaviors and expectations. "Expect More, Get More" is our Mantra! We will also use our technologies to complete an interest inventory and a learning styles questionnaire. These tools will assist me in planning and meeting each student's needs. We will also work in teams on a "movie knowledge" game to get to know each other and to learn how to work in cooperative groups. We will wrap up the class period with a read aloud from Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie, a book that I will use this week as my first book recommendation for the year!
What I need from you: We will discussing where we come from (not just geographically, but perhaps the origination of our names (both first and last), as well as our values and beliefs. Take a moment to talk with your student about these topics. How far back can you track your name? (I can go back to 1066 and the Norman Invasion). What unique celebrations does your family have? Do you have any symbolic items? (I have a milk jug from one of the Field dairies.) I would like each student to come in on Tuesday ready to share something about themselves or family.
