Monday, March 13th

Students must have the Close Reader assignment on pages 49-62 completed. If not, students are expected to stay after school from 2:45 - 3:30 in order to complete the work and to earn a passing grade on the assignment. Students were given two class period on work on this assignment, and they understood the expectation.

The class will go over the responses and discuss the passage. The teacher will model the expectation for both the short response and the extended response that will be written in class tomorrow for a TEST grade (the first for the final nine weeks).

This test will mirror the GMAS writing section of the test. However, students will have the advantage of already reading and discussing the passage they will write about.

Students are reminded of the vocabulary (10 words that were provided for them on Thursday). Anyone who did not get the definitions should ask a classmate for the list. These words will be on Thursday's test. This test will a multiple choice (25 questions) assessment over the reading selection, including the vocabulary.

Tuesday, March 14th

The class period will be spent on the writing portion of the "A Mystery of Heroism" test.

Wednesday, March 15th (Beware the Ides of March)

A final review of the short story in preparation for tomorrow's assessment.

Thursday, March 15th

Multiple Choice Assessment (25 questions)

Students will begin the next unit of study: Coming of Age

There are 4 selections in the Close Reader that students will read, annotate, and write about.

Students will be by reading "The Whistle" on pages 71-78.

Students will read the story, complete the "Close Read" assignment, complete the REREAD, and Short Response assignments in the workbook.

Friday, March 17th

Students will complete the assignment they began yesterday from the Close Reader.
