So, we began taking our understanding of "My Name" and turning that understanding into a writing assignment. I was happy about where some of the students were with their confidence in approaching the writing process. It can be daunting. We just started our paragraph, and the expectation is that we will come in tomorrow with at least six sentences. Those sentences should include a lead to the overall topic--the power of names, culture, or history. Students should introduce the writer, the genre, and the title of the piece they are addressing. They should make a claim that they will prove, and have a least one piece of evidence that has been extended.
Happy writing.
Kudos to my third period (also homeroom) for keeping me straight with regard to signed papers.
