Fish Cheeks

Today we wrapped up our conversation on Amy Tan's "Fish Cheeks." We will have a quiz on that selection on Monday. The quiz will include a short answer question. I did a check for completion of questions over "Fish Cheeks." Kudos to 3rd period for having the highest number of students who completed the task with 100%! This is our first check of questions associated with our reading selection. Hopefully students will come to understand the importance of attempting to answer their questions in order to be prepared to fully discuss the literature. The check was for completion. I demonstrated correct and well-developed questions for each.

Students also received their first nine weeks syllabus and the "Who is..." assignment. This assignment is due on Monday, August 29th. Students will have limited time in class to work on this assignment, so you should see them working on it at home. The assignment asks students to be creative and to consider how others perceive them. They can chose four people, or objects to describe themselves. A childhood toy, their shoes, siblings, and best friends are some of their options. This is a creative assignment and will be done in a visual format.
