DUE TOMORROW: PARAGRAPH 3 OF "WHO IS..." AND PARAGRAPH 1 FOR ANYONE WHO DID NOT HAVE IT TODAY.
We began recording "literary terms" that will we will use throughout the year and that will be on the end of year assessment. Anyone absent should get with someone to record these.
Our introduction to our first read unit was "Why America?" We discussed what it is that continues to bring immigrants into this country. We listened to Neil Diamond's song "America." Unfortunately, his music does not appeal to today's teenage audience:(
Students will begin looking at a variety of documents that record some statistics on immigration and the reasons why immigrants came/come here. Additionally, we will look at the obstacles they had to overcome and what they hoped to find here. This is not a history class, but in order to read the pieces from the literature book, requires some background knowledge.
The students will have another quiz next week that will include their first extended response. I expect that quiz to take place on Tuesday, but I will know better by the end of this week.
Students should continue to work on the "Who is" paragraphs. I will provide the paper tomorrow on which they will create their final visual.
