Feels Like Fall Break

Welcome Back. After a 4-day somewhat unexpected break, we finished our assessment on our immigration documents. Some students did not finish the written part, so they were allowed to take that home and complete it. However, they are assuming responsibility for bringing that to me first thing in the morning. If you are reading this, you might want to ask your student, if he/she finished that part.
Watching some of the students respond today was inspiring. They really took the task seriously and gave 110%. If you don't see your student reading and writing regularly, you probably should ask them a few questions about what's going on in school.
We will begin looking at some of the stories from the literature textbook and students will be given the on-line log-on information tomorrow. If necessary, they can access the book on-line rather than carry around a text. The choice is theirs/yours. We will make every effort to get our work done in class; however, in the event that does not happen, that work will be done at home. Hopefully this will motivate the students to stay on task and get the work done at school.
We will be reading "Bonne Annee," an essay about a refugee from Haiti in the 70's. Students will be looking at the writer's style and how the writer achieves his purpose through a variety of writing techniques. This will help the students learn the create their own style.
